Sunday Get Sh!t Done Day

After rearranging the furniture a month ago,
I was lamenting the loss of my sofa table.
Then the mister had a brilliant idea.

Remember when we found this by the side of the road?

He removed the top, ripped it in half,
sanded the hell out it
put a coat of poly on it
sanded and sprayed the legs and reattched them
in a new configuration.
I love the results.

While he was busy with that
I played around with food coloring and cake batter.
I'm practicing to make this
for the 5th birthday party I'm planning.
And while the kids were unattended...

Nooooooooo

we got the letter from school today
I knew it would be coming
I had seen the garbage bags hanging outside other classrooms

but now someone in his class has it
not him
but someone

I volunteered in his class today
I brought my daughter too

my head itches

grace jones. wow.

what happened 2U?

I have tried celebrity hair styles before.
The "Rachel" of course
And an ill advised attempt  at Halle Barry's pixie in college

this is a little more extreme
but if there is lice in my house
I will do it

my hair is impossibly thick
like not in a good way

I could never trust the mister to nit pick it
and find them all

I would never sleep
this is the only way

ok wait, we don't have it yet.
is it wrong to keep your kindergartner home from school to prevent lice?

18 inches

that is a parking meter

18 inches of new snow on Sunday killed my spring fever.

he is the black dot in the center

Made my dog happy

as per ususal all photos are taken with my iphone3G

Made me notice my neighbors pretty cobalt door

Also made me notice that my other neighbors sidewalk bricks match her shutters
you probably can't see that
And her stones match the siding
She's good like that with color

my inspiration photo again, I post it all the time sorry

It also made me realize that white is the best backdrop
and I do indeed want to paint my living room all white

It was a productive walk.

Sometimes

Sometimes, I eat my feelings.

Carbonara in first photo from Giada

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch asparagus, ends trimmed, rubber band left on
  • 1 pound linguini
  • 1 cup Basil Aioli, recipe follows
  • 1 cup shaved pecorino
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 to 6 large eggs
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the asparagus and cook for 3 minutes. Transfer the asparagus to a bowl of ice water and let sit until cool, about 5 minutes. Remove from the water, remove the rubber band, and cut into 1-inch pieces.
Meanwhile, add the pasta to the large pot of salted water used to cook the asparagus and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain pasta into a large bowl. Add the Basil Aioli, cut asparagus, shaved cheese, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and place on a long, rectangular serving dish.
Place the butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the eggs and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Fry the eggs to your liking. Place the eggs on top of the pasta and serve immediately.

Basil Aioli:

  • clove garlic, minced
  • 2 large egg yolks*
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Yield: 1 cup
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Combine the garlic, egg yolks, mustard, lemon juice, basil, salt, pepper, and cayenne in a food processor and run the machine to mix. With the machine running slowly drizzle in the vegetable and olive oil. Basil Aioli can be kept, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Peace out.

red(d) and randy

miles redd

It's 55 degrees in February.
The kids and the dog are hyper.
And while yesterday I was feeling playful

more miles redd

today I'm downright randy

miles redd again

In addition to the warm weather,
Miles Redd's rooms do it for me too.

You've seen them before, but they are worth another look, no?
