Hey! I just planted those...

This morning we woke up to this giant snapping turtle laying eggs in my newly planted hostas.

She looks prehistoric

It's flipping Wild Kingdom around here lately.  Sunday we had a Pileated Woodpecker and 2 deer in the yard as well.

  1. That's crazy!!

We just get the normal squirrels, field mice, and birds in our backyard. Although, I have seen a coyote or too in the field at the end of the block. (Luckily our backyard is fenced in)

  4. She doesn't nest there. She lives in the pond. My neighbor told me the eggs will hatch in a few weeks and the baby snappers will make a march to the pond as well, so it seems to be harmless.

  5. i've seen baby turtles march to a pond near me...unfortunately they were marching across a bike path. let's just say they were given a concerned citizen escort.

  6. Wow - that turtle looks gigantic! I think I would've freaked out if I stumbled upon that turtle in my yard! My mom has a wild turkey that hangs out in her garden - nobody knows how or why it appears. This beats the wild turkey for sure!
