Happy 4th!

we stay home on the 4th

because Excelsior 

on the 4th of July

is a little slice of Americana

It's an eclectic little town

one square mile

bordered on three sides by a lake

and one by a highway

(I live closer to the highway)

we have to figure 8 around it to get a 3.5 mile walk

each morning with the mutt

I snapped these photos one morning on my walk

by eclectic I mean there are multi-million dollar lake homes

along with regular houses

and section 8 apartments

unlike most of the other lake towns

which are a bit more fancy

and don't want me to live there

the photo above is one of my favorite houses in town

it's actually a guest house for a bigger lake home

I like this little path

and a peek of the big house in back

in that one square mile there are 3 ice cream shops

yes three

2 bakeries

and 7 bars

4 with live music every weekend

the best little shop for teacher gifts

and hostess gifts

and bff gifts

and gifts for your wife

yesterday the girls and I hit the beach

while the boys caught fish

today we will kayak

tomorrow

30,000 people will descend to see the fireworks

and the Minnesota Orchestra

it is chaos

and Tuesday we get the town back to ourselves

and you get back to my regular programming

and I promise no more photos of my patio
