Good Riddance

2010 brought lost jobs, murdered puppies, broken promises, and shattered confidences,

so three days of rain and a well-deserved hangover

seem a fitting way to say good bye to it.

Tomorrow I would like to wake up here.

Great dress, great blogs, I'm boring

Jean Shift Dress
I found this great little dress for NYE via Nasty Gal Vintage, which I found through a cool blog, I Want to be Her!, which I found through Making It Lovely, and she found through A Cup of Jo.

But I am mostly likely staying home on NYE, not really a fan of going out that night.  You?

I feel like this

ugh

konfetti tumblr

I can't remember when I felt as good

as the woman who posed for that sculpture

3 days of chowing will do that to a girl

the pictures are small
but the house is amazing

I guess instead of interior doors they used big curtains
and it gives it a sexy feel.

Have Peace

It is quiet at my house tonight
as my regular Christmas Day guests,
my bff and her parents, spend the week at the hospital.
Her Dad has pneumonia.

So we watch the Yule Log channel and thank God for our health

and pray for his

and eat this

and this for supper

(they were actually bringing most of the food)

actually apples and cheese and popcorn are one of my favorite suppers

and gear up for another crazy family gathering tomorrow.

Priority Shipping

Santa has always come to our house on the morning of the 24th.
All my life.

He delivered big time this year.
Kit Kittredge didn't leave her arms all day or night.

He comes early because we would never miss a Christmas Eve with
my grandparents who are 88 and 89 and more fun
than most people my age.
See Kit Kit as we now all must call her.

Here's a quick snap of Kit Kit at mass.

She slept between Anna and I last night at my grandparents.

I had to baby sit today while Anna played in the snow.

It wasn't too hard.

Nice Actually.

Have a Merry Imperfect Christmas

I don't have a fireplace so I decorate the Ikea entertainment center
(and like always photograph stuff in the dark with my phone)

The stockings hang in the hallway on an old ski with hooks.

Do you have any weird traditions?

I get my kids each a snow globe every year.

A friend of mine saves all her Christmas cards to open on Christmas day

Another gets her mister to shop and wrap gifts with her
by wearing lingerie (during the wrapping part)

I listen nonstop to the sound track
from Charlie Brown Christmas
it's really the only Christmas music you need.

Actually, I  have a big Christmas play list,
and one of my other recent favorites is
Donde Esta Santa Claus by Guster.

I have a Charlie Brownish tree by my front door,
and a card I got years ago from my aunt
in a pretty frame.
She gave me that too.

So tell me something good, any weird traditions?  Great holiday songs?

Christmas doesn't have to be perfect

repeat after me

Christmas does not have to be perfect;
it is hard to remember sometimes.

there is a lot of pressure on moms and dads
and hosts and hostesses
to make it memorable

but kids don't have to get everything they ask for

everything doesn't have to be homemade

and it is ok to leave Oreos for Santa
he doesn't care.

I'm liking the white

Iknowright?

the lightness here feels good
It's cozy but so bright.

I think the whiteness is appealing to me because life is so chaotic right now.
It's calming, but energizing at the same time.
That's what I strive for, calm energy.

I struggled with the calm part today.

ps white + olive green who knew?

When you cancel basketball practice John Wooden Jr. I would appreciate a call.
And a shout out goes to the mom who gave out whistles as party favors, me and my dog hate you.
Peace.

At my house this week

12 inches of snow.  The first 8 were plenty for me.

My six year old becomes a cough drop addict.  Always the prince of drama when he is sick, the ability to self medicate is fascinating and probably a horrible foreshadowing of things to come.

I plan a rocking holiday party for 20.
Look out Mrs Tao's kindergarten class I'm talking to you.

I also help design a gigantic display for Imagination Fair.
The  display case inside the front door of the elementary school.
I spell" Inventible" wrong for 600 kids to see,
and the school secretary tracks me down at home to tell me.

I made this to give to friends and neighbors since the caramels didn't work out so well.
Stop by and I'll give you some too.

Or don't and make it yourself

1 box Quaker Oat Squares
1.5 cups chow mein noodles ( I prefer the rice noodles)
1 cup cashews
1 cup oil
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp onion powder
1tsp garlic powder

Warm the oil, soy sauce and spices.
Pour over the cereal, noodles and nuts.
Bake at 250 for an hour
Stir every 20 minutes.

She decorated the bags with Happy Tape.
I posted about Happy Tape last Christmas,
and it is still fun to play with.

Things that are dark

dark and creepy

I'm talking to you, above the fireplace, whatever you are

dark and curvy

I forgot where I found you, sorry.

dark and delicious

I want to rub your bald head.

It is the darkest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere,
so it only gets better from here right?
