Everything around her was a silver pool of light

Today I lost another influential woman in life to cancer.  Two years ago it was my close friend Jen.  I was at her bedside when she left us.  Today it was Barb, my first boss out of grad school, in the real world.  She was a mentor and a friend.  She found me a place to live when I was homeless.

Barb and Jen had some remarkable similarities.  They had envious careers.  They were unlucky in love and childless.  Coincidence? I'm not sure.  They had legions of friends who loved them fiercely.  They traveled for pleasure extensively and were passionate about their hobbies.  For Barb it was golf, for Jen it was cooking and gardening.

They were sarcastic in the best way.

They didn't know each other but they both had tremendous influence in my life.

They left me too early.

  5. So sorry for your loss. I just wrote a post about a friend I had lost too. We're lucky to have had these people walk through our lives.
